Playing the original Doom is one of my most vivid memories as a youngster. I still love the series and wanted to create one of the baddies from that storyline.

Character I modeled in Maya, then did slight detailing in zbrush.
And yes, parts of it were awkward to model.

When a friend approached me with the idea of doing a technical manual for his company that had the express purpose of being extraordinarily engaging and informative, I jumped at the chance.

So I began scheming an approach filled with robot masterminds, sharp wit, and absolutely saturated in nerdisms.

In the back of my head, I never figured they'd actually go through with it. But I was wrong.

Not only did they love the idea, but they added to the story arc, and asked me to do a series of teaser posters to drum up excitement.

The project was so well received and successful that we were asked to speak about the process and outcome at a conference in Las Vegas.

This was the first illustration I did in the series of fireworks packages. I knew I wanted to keep the color palette clean and simple to stand out from the competition and that I wanted a sinister-looking volcano plume.

I'm of the personal opinion that the addition of a skull to a firework package increases its awesomeness.

Rather than simply showing a straight-forward self-contained illustration, I wanted to invite the viewer into a deeper storyline to engage their interest and cut through the visual clutter that are common fireworks stand shelves.

My thinking going in was how can I make the packaging for a fountain look more exciting?

In hindsight, I think I might have been channeling Stargate.
